As the nesting season is pending, birds are getting busy seeking ideal spots to build their nests. You may see individual birds carrying twigs, moss and dead leaves to their new hideaways?
Nesting birds are protected from disturbance so if you have a bird nesting in a tree, you will need to delay any pruning or felling work until the chicks have fledged and the nest is empty.
However, it can be fascinating seeing which trees and other spots are chosen. It may take patience and some detective work, but it can be very rewarding watching nature in action.
Spring is an ideal time to choose trees to follow in the coming months in your own ‘Nature’s Diary’.
